๐ Note: During the split‑title era (1997–2005), the Candidates tournament was not held in a unified form. In 2007, the format was a series of knockout matches that produced four winners (Aronian, Gelfand, Grischuk, Lรฉkรณ), who then joined four seeded players in the World Championship Tournament in Mexico City.
India’s Dommaraju Gukesh won the Candidates title in 2024 and went on to defeat Ding Liren to become the youngest world champion in history. The 2026 edition is now underway in Cyprus – the next name on this list will be added on 16 April.
